As a medium between concept and creation, Todd has worked with private, corporate, and collector clients for 30 years. Twisting steel, adzing wood, sometimes combining the two mediums, his goal is to find a client’s story and translate that story into art. Each piece is a new challenge with its own unique solutions. Todd’s body of work covers a broad range, but a unifying style underlies all.
Todd grew up in Iowa. As a college student he worked in a factory as a welder. Finishing his studies in design and fine art at Iowa State University, he moved to the west coast in 1981. He settled on Orcas Island where majestic firs and red cedars infuse his everyday life.
Soon after this move, wood sculpture became Todd’s primary focus. Soon, elements of metal were included. Pacific Northwest carving and ballet round off Todd’s studies.
