Todd studied fine arts in the College of Design at Iowa State University, focusing primarily on printmaking. This was followed by private lessons in oil portraiture with Maxine Pendry.

Serious work in sculpture did not start until he moved to Orcas Island, Wa. in 1981.

-     “Tribute” 14 foot tall wood sculpture commissioned for installation in Eastsound, WA.   Dedicated in 2010.  

-2008 New Works installation. A show of ancient wood and formed steel. Includes the transport, raising, and inside gallery installation of three 2000 pound salvaged Old Growth cedar logs. Orcas Performing Arts Center.

-Worked with Arts Coordinator for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines on two occasions (2001 and 2005). Created a single pole carving in 2001 for Wichita Corporate headquarters. Created and installed a triple pole carving for new west coast headquarters and call center outside Eugene Oregon in 2005.

-Designed and created two scenes of formed metal for the Lambiel Museum of Orcas Island. Each scene measures 22 feet long by 10 feet high. Incorporated a wide variety of materials including bronze, stainless steel, copper, steel, aluminum, and brass.  2006.

-Designed and created commemorative carving for the family of Lou Paglia. Yellow Cedar log eight feet tall by 30 inches wide. Greenwich, Connecticut. 2004.

-Commissioned to create and oversee installation of carved gate for Medina residents. Designed and carved two-leaf, four-inch thick cedar gate, dimensions thirteen feet by five feet high. Coordinated mason, electrician, and controls installer. Concurrently designed and carved a “two bear” condiment table for owner’s Mountlake Terrace Third Place Books Honey Bear. Bellevue/Mountlake Terrace, WA. 2001.
